Occupational Therapy Training and Education

Occupational therapy is a rapidly growing profession in Norway with three new occupational therapist programmes during the last 15 years. Norwegian occupational therapists receive their training at five university colleges and higher institutions. The courses give a bachelor degree and meet the Norwegian national standards («rammeplan») as well as the minimum standards required by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists – WFOT (see link at the right hand side).

Around 250 occupational therapists qualify each year. They have the option to participate in postgraduate studies via the Norwegian universities and colleges. Many Norwegian occupational therapists have postgraduate training. The most common fields are psychiatry, rehabilitation, counselling and management as well as master degree in health sciences. The first Norwegian occupational therapists have done / are finalising their doctoral studies. Since 2001 Norwegian occupational therapists have the possibility to study Occupational Science at Sør-Trøndelag University College
